For in vitro diagnostic use. PP3079 COLOREX™ LIN-R is a chromogenic screening medium for the detection, isolation and differentiation of Linezolid-resistant strains of Staphylococcus and Enterococcus.
Linezolid is a synthetic oxazolidinone antibiotic that is effective against drug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria such as Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE).
Resistance to linezolid has emerged and is increasing particularly among strains carrying the Cfr gene.
Resistance levels are still relatively low, but surveillance is crucial due to the importance of the drug in treatment of infections involving other multidrug resistant bacteria.
Surveillance is mainly conducted through programmes initiated in UK, Europe, and the United States. COLOREX™ LIN-R serves as a valuable screening medium for detecting and isolating linezolid-resistant Staphylococcus and Enterococcus strains.
